Embark on a Scenic Cruise in the Rospuda Valley
Cruise Itinerary:
Netta River ≈ Necko Lake ≈ Rospuda Lake ≈ Rospuda River ≈ Rospuda Valley (2 km into the Rospuda River) ≈ Return
Your adventure begins on the tranquil Netta River, where you’ll be captivated by the stunning natural beauty of Augustowska’s picturesque banks. As we glide into Necko Lake, admire the serene forested shoreline, dotted with inviting swimming spots and beaches, teeming with various fish species.
Next, we’ll visit Rospuda Lake, also known as Rospuda Augustowska, where the renowned Goła Zośka Peninsula awaits. According to local legend, this peninsula carries a haunting tale: it is said that the daughter of a forester, who fell in love with a tsarist officer, met her tragic fate here for spying on Napoleonic troops for the Russians.
As we navigate the winding curves and rocky shoals of the Rospuda River, you’ll soon witness the river widen into a swampy basin filled with peat bogs, known as the Rospuda Valley. This area is recognized as one of the most significant peatlands, boasting a natural water balance that prevents overgrowth of trees and shrubs. The Rospuda Valley is a protected zone due to its rich biodiversity, including rare species of flora and fauna, such as the cross honeylocust (Herminium monorchis), listed in the Polish Red Book of Plants. Keep your eyes and ears open; you might catch a glimpse of a white-tailed eagle or crane, or even spot a wolf or deer as they traverse this vital migration corridor connecting the Augustow Forest and Biebrza National Park.
